“Tine”

For the domestic market, the company produces almost a full range of dairy products. Jarlsberg cheese (Norwegian cheese with large eyes), Snofrisk goat milk cheese, Ridder cheese, and Gudbrandsdalen under the Ski-Queen brand are produced for export.

In 1928, Norske Meieriers Eksportlag (Norwegian Dairy Products Export Group) was founded. In 1942 the name changed to "Norske Meieriers Salgssentral" and in 1984 to "Norske Meierier". The Tine brand has been in use since 1992. If Norway had joined the European Union in 1994, the company would have had to deal with foreign companies and would have needed to strengthen its market position. After accusations of monopolism in 2004, Morten Andreas Mayer (Norwegian Conservative Party), former Norwegian Minister of Administration and Reform, wanted to forcibly split Tine, but did not receive the necessary support.
